Reports and alerts

Weekly summaries, traffic-spike emails and goal alerts.

You do not need to watch the dashboard. Analytics can email you the important bits.

The two automatic emails

Set them up in Analytics → Settings → Reports. They go to your account email; you can change the address on that page.

  • Weekly summary — lands Monday morning: top articles, visitor count, top countries for the week.
  • Traffic spike — sent when a single hour brings about three times your normal traffic.

There is a Send me a test email link on the same page. Use it once to make sure the emails reach you.

Alerts

Alerts are emails sent the moment something happens. You can have up to 20, created under Analytics → Alerts:

  • A goal happens — choose a goal, then write the alert's name, subject and message. The message can include variables: the goal's name, its value, the page, the source, the device. One goal alert sends at most 50 emails a day.
  • Traffic changes — watch Visitors, Pageviews or Revenue across a day, week or month, and get an email when the number crosses a level you set, either way. These are checked when the period ends.

Widgets

In Analytics → Settings → Widgets you can put two counters on your public site: a Visitor counter (visitors in the last 30 days) and a Live counter (people on the site right now). Both are off until you switch them on.

Public dashboard

Analytics → Settings → General has a public dashboard option: a read-only link anyone can open, no login needed. It always shows the last 30 days and has no settings to change, so you can share it with a client without sharing your account.
