Goals

Count the actions that matter: signups, purchases and key page views.

A goal counts one action: a visitor reached a thank-you page, signed up, or fired a custom event. Goals are how you separate people who just looked from people who actually did the thing.

Create one

  1. In Analytics, go to Goals and add a goal.
  2. Pick the type:
    • Page view — fires when a visitor opens a page. Match the path with is, is not, contains, starts with, ends with, or a regular expression. Example: /pricing.
    • Custom event — fires when your site sends an event. See Funnels and custom events.

No code? There is a setting for that

Analytics → Settings has Track goals without writing code. You click an element on your site, it gets marked with a data attribute, and clicks on it count as a goal. Handy for a checkout or signup button when you cannot edit the code yourself.

Where goals show up

Completions appear in the Analytics overview, and in the Filter panel, so you can see which sources and pages produce them. A goal can also trigger an email the moment it happens — see Reports and alerts. Purchases are handled separately, under Revenue tracking.
